Rhett Burns

Associate Pastor for Families, Children, and Outreach

Rhett began serving Mountain Creek as Associate Pastor for Families, Children, and Outreach in November 2018. Prior to joining the Mountain Creek staff, Rhett and his family lived in Turkey, where he worked as a football coach, teacher, and freelance writer.

A native of Greenville, Rhett previously worked as a high school football and basketball coach at Blue Ridge and Wade Hampton High Schools and as Director of Sports Information and NCAA Compliance at North Greenville University. He is a two-time NGU graduate and holds a Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Rhett first joined Mountain Creek as a member in 2005. Over the next few years, he began to lead the college ministry, married his wife, and was licensed to preach and sent to seminary. After seven years overseas, the Burns family returned to Greenville and Mountain Creek in 2017.

Rhett and Shannon were married in December 2007. They have four children: Hudson (b. January 2012), Katelyn (b. June 2014), Rachel (b. October 2016) and Asher (b. July 2019).

Rhett is the author of two books: Run Like a Stallion: How American Football Explains Turkey and The New People Next Door: Learning to Love Your Cross-Cultural Neighbors.
