Praying for VBS

VBS starts today! While many will be serving in various roles this week, one incredibly important way that all of us can serve is by praying! Below is a short prayer guide to help you do just that:

Pray for the kids who know Jesus

  • That they would grow in their knowledge of God’s love for them in Christ
    • “I bow my knees before the Father … that you … may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.” (Ephesians 3:14–19)
  • That they would see wonderful new things in God’s Word this week
    • “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.” (Psalm 119:18)
  • That they would take root and grow in Christ
    • “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thanksgiving.” (Col 2:6-7)

Pray for the kids who don’t know Jesus

  • That they would hear and believe the Scriptures
    • “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the Word of Christ.” (Romans 10:17)
  • That they would understand what it means to turn from their sin and receive Christ
    • “Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12)
  • That they would seek to know God through Jesus Christ
    • “God did this so that men would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us.” (Acts 17:27)

Pray for the workers

  • That by their service, they would show the love of Christ
    • “No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us.” (1 John 4:12)
  • That by their words, they would make clear the message of Christ
    • “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?” (Romans 10:14)
  • That they would serve by the strength that God supplies and for the glory of God in Christ
    • “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 4:10–11)
