The word of God calls Christians to be connected to a body of believers — a local church — for the purpose of our growth and His glory. For us at Mountain Creek, this is what we mean by “following Jesus together.”
LOVING JESUS BY LOVING EACH OTHER
Jesus said something interesting that is recorded in John’s gospel in the New Testament:
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. (13:34-35)
We begin to learn what Jesus means by this in the first part of this same chapter, when Jesus humbles Himself as a servant, washing His disciples’ feet (John 13:1-5), and we see it clearly at the cross, where Jesus showed the greatest love by laying down His life for others. (John 15:13)
The apostle Paul instructs us in this way in the New Testament book of Philippians, and he connected this command to the example of Jesus’ sacrifice to us in Philippians 2:5-11:
… in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. (2:3-4)
LOVE FOR OTHERS IS BEING COMMITTED TO THEIR GOOD AS DEFINED BY GOD
For us to carry out this command to love, we must be committed to walk alongside one another, helping each other follow Jesus.
At Mountain Creek, we encourage one another to cultivate this lifestyle of love in our daily lives, and we give opportunities to express this love through a number of ministries that help us live out our commitment to worship God, love one another, and reach the world.
